Tuesday, 31 August 2010 (soundpooling)
11:24am

Marta and I are going to be shuffling our schedule around. Instead of spending the night together on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it'll be Tuesdays and Fridays. I don't why that's scary, but it is.

Monday, 30 August 2010 (an accumulation of vermin)
2:23pm

I did make it to the gym this morning for my usual cardio stuff as well as Damiel's abs class, as well as seeing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World for the third time. Someone's gotta do it, and I just keep loving the movie more.

Sunday, 29 August 2010 (salt marie celeste)
11:53pm

After a lovely if annoyingly chilly weekend in Fresno—I even had to wear my sweater last night when Marta and I went with Jonco into the Tower District for ice cream at Scoop's, just like we did last year and which I expect will be a tradition with the three of us, and one that sounds just fine with me—we got back into San Francisco in time for me to get to The Dark Room to record an interview with Adam Spiegelman about Bad Movie Night for his podcast Proudly Resents. I mostly just babbled and sounded like an idiot, but hey, I gotta be me. Got a pretty good crowd in the evening for the feature, House of the Dead. Now, sleep, because I've eaten way too much cheese over the past seventy-two hours, and the gym awaits. Thankfully, I seem to have regained the momentum I'd lost last year. Or developed a new one, anyway.

Saturday, 28 August 2010 (filling in the blanks)
2:12pm

It's Fresno, late august, middle of the afternoon, and the temperature is in the mid-eighties. This is just wrong on so many levels. The pool's even a little on the cold side. On the plus side, Marta and I are here with my family (my mom and all four of her children at the same time!), and that's pretty great. We also had dinner at El Toro Tambien with my father and Barefoot and assorted significant others last night, so we've covered all the bases.

It was chilly, though. A chilly night during the summer in Fresno…it simply does not compute. Misses the whole point, really. It was hotter earlier this week in San Francisco, for Pete's sake.

Friday, 27 August 2010 (immediate anachronism)
11:24am

Quiet day in the office. Quiet day in most offices, I'm guessing. I'm leaving soon to pick up Marta from her work, and then we're Fresno-bound.

Thursday, 26 August 2010 (being reconfigured is not the same as being reimagined)
1:13pm

Marta and I ventured outside the City last night (over a bridge and everything!) to the Craneway Pavilion in Point Richmond for an Underground Public Library. It was fun, though we had to leave earlyish because of my whole "getting up at four to go to the gym" thing. That can get in the way sometimes.

I just finished and sent off the pr0n review. It's funny how much goes into five hundred words (or less). I still haven't gotten my print copy of Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation yet, but the editors sent me a PDF of the book so I could decide which five minutes to read and then send that to the ASL interpreter so they can prepare for next Wednesday's reading. (It's all so San Franciscan, it hurts.) Looking at the final, edited version, there's a few things in it I would change—and there's some edits I requested which they didn't implement—but it's pretty damn good all the same. And hey, dig me, I got published again!

Now, to today's second gym excursion.

Wednesday, 25 August 2010 (jolting awake)
4:11am

Ugh. That really wasn't enough sleep—even with my Fresno credentials, it can be tricky to relax and sleep well in San Francisco when it gets hot—but it'll have to do, because I'm not not doing my usual gym routine this morning. I think my body has finally reached that mode where it gets that I'm serious about the whole "burning fat" thing (as well as the "building lean muscle" thing, if to a slightly lesser extent) and adjusts my metabolism accordingly. So, keeping at it.

7:43am

Perdita's doing better, and a friend tells me that she was informed by a veterinarian yesterday that pretty much all cats were sluggish. Which is reassuring, I guess.

Tuesday, 24 August 2010 (a mid-coital pieta)
9:08am

My agent just wrote. She's sent Bottomfeeder off to another editor, and there's at least one that we're waiting to hear back from. The process continues, and it's really been teaching me a lot about the modern publishing industry as I research what writers the potential editors work with. Once again, I can't help thinking that if I just threw in a few vampires, the book would find a publisher in no time.

7:01pm

It's hot today. Unusually hot by San Francisco standards, and of course, people were freaking out, as they always do. Thankfully, it meant that the gym wasn't as crowded at five in the afternoon as it usually is. On the negative side, Perdita is kinda sluggish. That's really the only word for it. She isn't exhibiting any sick-cat behaviors, nor does she seem to be in pain. She's just moving slow. The thing is, it's not hot in The Black Light District. It never really is. In fact, it gets warmer in here when I keep the heater on overnight. I'm sure she'll be fine, it's no doubt the (temporary) heat finding its way to her all the same, but it's still troubling. I'm not crazy about all the tourists flocking to the beach and using up my neighborhood's ample free parking, either.

Monday, 23 August 2010 (radiating discomfort)
2:21pm

Just saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World again. Liked it even better the second time around, as I expected I might.

And speaking of seconds, time for today's second gym excursion.

Sunday, 22 August 2010 (sleazy bed track)
2:14pm

The show went well last night. There's wasn't exactly a huge turnout—Sizzle isn't the big draw it once was, I suppose—but Marta and I got to hang out with Cindy at Lucky 13, and I even had a Bloody Mary. Before the show and everything! I drink seldom and before readings even less, but I figured it couldn't hurt in this case, and I was right.

11:20pm

Continuing my weekend of debauchery, I smoked grass before Bad Movie Night (Street Fighter) this evening. Just one hit off a pipe, and I almost immediately coughed it all out in surprise when someone was all sherilyn's smoking! i've never seen that before! Kinda threw me off my game. But I'm a lightweight, so one coughed-out hit was more than enough for me for the evening. It helped that I wasn't on mic tonight, so there was no pressure to be funny or even coherent.

Saturday, 21 August 2010 (teenage dream)
10:11am

Went to Midnites for Maniacs at The Castro last night. Revenge of the Nerds, The Outsiders and Class of 1984. Much like when I saw Metropolis there last Saturday, a friend of mine was there but didn't sit with me because their date wanted to be closer to the screen. I always feel like a bit of a loser when I sit by myself at The Castro, moreso at Midnites for Maniacs.

Though I managed to get about seven hours of sleep when I got home, and I'm skipping the gym today, I expect there'll be some napping in my immediate future. Especially since I'm reading at Sizzle tonight.
