Current

Wednesday, 10 December 2008 (the comforting nightlight)
9:41am

No gym this morning. I didn't get to bed until midnight last night, so I decided to err on the side of rest and sleep in. Which, for me, means getting up at a quarter to seven rather than my usual quarter past five. It adds up.

Won't be hitting Tyrol's spin class tonight, either. After work I'm meeting up with Sean Owens to work on our SNOWMISER dialogue, and then I'm going to Ramah's to get the squid tightened. She's also putting in a few purple tentacles. After that, I intend to work on my AIRspace piece, which has been neglected these past weeks. I'm not worried, since it's just a streamlined version of a piece which I've read aloud before, but still, it would be nice to spend a little time on it. And at some point I'll really need to start writing the story for Christmas Sucks, which is in a week and a half.

At this time last year I was deep in the quagmire of the Vash/Ripley meltdown, and was pretty emotionally fracked as a result. (Breaking up with two people several times over the course of a month will do that. I don't recommend it.) A year later, my focus is writing and performing, and I'm feeling pretty happy. Oh, I was also hated my body at the time, and while I still have a long way to go, I'm in much better shape now. 2008, for the win!

4:11pm

Though I went this morning as usual, and of course worked with Raphaela last night, no gym for me this afternoon. Instead, I'm heading to The Garage to rehearse Sadie's AIRspace piece, in which I have a cameo, and from there it's to The Dark Room for SNOWMISER rehearsal.

Gods help me, I think I'm about to post my first Missed Connection on Craigslist. No good can come of this.

Sunday, 7 December 2008 (mostly gone)
10:11am

Sundays are usually my day off from the gym but I went this morning anyway, since I only went for forty minutes yesterday morning, and I'll definitely be missing Tyrol's spin class on Wednesday. Plus, you know, this is the only way it works.

Ghosts. They're on every street of this town.

6:20pm

At SNOWMISER rehearsal yesterday and today, we worked with a real live piano player. I stood at the piano and sang while he played. It was quite classic. And as singers go, I'm a hell of a writer.

Saturday, 6 December 2008 (dreaming from the waist)
3:32pm

I have no musical theater training or experience, nor have I had any singing lessons, but i'm blazing away in SNOWMISER all the same. It's what I do.

9:20pm

I went to Star Wars at The Dark Room these past couple of evenings, but I decided to spend tonight at home, the last opportunity I'll get to do so for a while.

Leni's working on Star Wars, so I've actually gotten to talk to her for the first time since June, which is nice. Dating her was never really an option, but we're friends, and it doesn't always work out that way. (My attempt to become friends with Laura fell pretty flat. Meanwhile, when Leni saw me the other day, she hugged me and said she missed me.) Anyway, she's mentioned on two different occasions over the past few days that I'm looking much better since she saw me last. I believe "svelte" was the word she used. It dosen't really apply, not yet, but from her, I'll take it.

Friday, 5 December 2008 (moving further inland)
6:32pm

Thomas Roche has asked me to be in a show at the Center for Sex and Culture on Friday, December 19 called Christmas Sucks. Similar to My Sucky Valentine, he wants me to read a piece on "crappy winter-Holiday adventures, sexy winter-Holiday adventures, or anything relating to nasty, sexy or diastrous winter holiday excitement." Oh, man. Considering how the last four xmases have gone—except for 2005, they've been unrelentingly lousy—I have plenty of material to choose from. I think it's time for the tale of the sub-tropical snowstorm. I won't have much time to write it, since it's two weeks from tonight, and I have both I AM SNOWMISER and AIRspace coming up, but I've told the story orally so many times, writing it out should be fairly simple. I need to properly write out the Rent Girl story sometime too.

Mmmm. Forbidden fruit. So damn yummy.

Worked with Raphaela today. It's nice to have her back. I won't mind working with Cassiel again when need be, but I think he went deliberately easy on me. Not so with Raphaela, who has me sweating buckets and gasping for air within the first five minutes, since she usually starts off with hardcore gravity-defying pilates stuff. Today was especially gnarly, and I collapsed towards the end of of the third and final plank. It was at the very end of the session, and my arms just got to the point where they refused to continue holding my body up, no matter how much I willed them. It was a little embarrassing, though Raphaela assured me I had no reason to feel embarrassed. I did prop myself back up and finish out the last eight seconds, which I'm pretty sure was actually an eternity.

Before we started, she took my measurements:
  7/28/08 9/19/08 10/20/08 12/5/08
Body Fat 29.5% 26.3% 24.5% 19%
Waist 42" 38" 37" 36.25"
Chest 41" 41" 40.75" 40"
Hips 46" 44.5" 42" 41"
Left thigh 20" 19.5" 20.5" 21.25"
Right thigh 21" 20" 20" 22"
Left calf 16" 15.5" 15.5" 15.5"
Right calf 16" 16" 15" 16"
Left arm 13.75" 13" 12" 12.5"
Right arm 14" 13.5" 12.25" 12.5"

Not really sure what's going on with my legs and arms. Muscle-building, I suppose, which is a good thing, and they still look smaller than they once. Certainly can't complain about the changes in my waist and hips, which I can tell by looking are smaller, and from which so many of my body issues originate. (How terribly original of me.) The drop in the body fat percentage seems empirically fishy, but Raphaela trusts the electronic doohickey she uses, it corresponds with me eating vegan, and it also falls into the "can tell by looking" category. Still got a long, long way to go, however. And my fundamental, genetic hugeness won't change anytime soon.

Thursday, 4 December 2008 (the four of us are dying)
2:31pm

Acting and singing in I AM SNOWMISER: Walken in a Winter Wonderland, an xmas cabaret, has done nothing to change my intense hatred of xmas music in stores. Go figure.

Wednesday, 3 December 2008 (lights in the sky)
6:02pm

I damaged the bottom of my right foot last night. It's nothing that won't heal, and not even quite as bad as when one of Collette's feline brood scratched the bottom of my foot in '05. This requires two band-aids, which I change frequently, as well as generous amounts of antibiotic. It hurts when I walk, though not enough to keep my from doing my cardio this morning, and I'm still going to Tyrol's spin class tonight, since neither of those require actual impact on the bottom of my foot. Anyway, my old, evidently dangerous wicker hamper was involved. Not to mention the fact that I'm a huge klutz.

Turns out the company holiday party is on the night I AM SNOWMISER premieres. A shame, that. A damned shame.

Monday, 1 December 2008 (losing grip)
10:22am

Just made it to the office. Since I didn't get to bed until three in the morning, I covered my clock, kept the alarm off, and slept until my body was ready to wake up on its own. This is especially important since I'm seeing Raphaela tonight (yay! she's back!), and sleep deprivation would be a very bad thing. Besides I have more than enough good-attendance credits stored up, so coming in late now and again isn't really a problem. Quite frankly, if I hadn't emailed Officer Dave to tell him, I doubt anyone would have noticed. I fly under the radar most of the time.
