Friday, 30 April 2010 (rainshadow near christchurch)
sometime after midnight

Went to the gym this morning to light weights and spin. As is usually the case when I haven't exercised for a few weeks, my workout shirt is feeling tight. I hate my metabolism.

The old gym where I used to work with Raphaela, The National Personal Training Institute on Market a couple doors down from Cafe Du Nord, is shuttered. If door hadn't already been shut on that era of my life, it sure is now.

Spent the evening at KrOB's place, working on the preshow Eyenoise for our big Bad Movie Night / Drive-Out Theatre mashup in a few weeks. Because that's how I party on Friday nights.

Thursday, 29 April 2010 (twilight conversation)
5:11pm

We hung out with an old friend of Marta's last night, had Thai for dinner, then returned to The Black Light District and crashed out. This morning we had breakfast at the Irving Street Cafe, then returned to my place to work on our applications for the Lambda Literary Writers’ Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices in August. Gotta cast the net wide.

I received the publication contract for my essay in Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation. At my request, the essay is now called "The Big Reveal," which it probably should have been all along. Hell, I'm surprised they accepted it with the old name. In any event, even though it's for an anthology and not a book with my actual name on it, it always feels nice to sign one of these contracts.

Marta's scholarship application to Tin House has been rejected, which means she won't be able to attend the workshop. I still haven't heard anything from them at all. It isn't as though I'm unaccustomed to being ignored, but jeez. The check was cashed, after all. Still, though, at this point I'd be just as happy to rejected/ignored, since I'd rather not go without her. If I'm accepted and get a scholarship I'll mostly likely go, but I really wish we could go together.

Another rejection via my Agent, this time from a publisher who'd already rejected it once: i'm still not sold on it. we're having to be very selective with our memoirs these days and i don't feel immediately drawn in. So there you go. There are still others, though.

Sunday, 25 April 2010 (when the radio goes dead)
10:31pm

Marta and I went shopping yesterday evening, then came back home to eat sushi salad and watch Breaking Bad. (She's still in the second season, but getting caught up.) We went into The Richmond today on a deli run which didn't go quite so well as hoped, with one of us having a mini-breakdown on the street. Turns out that at certain upscale delis in The Richmond, the patrons will stare and giggle if you break down into tears. Just another reason why The Sunset is better than The Richmond.

Bad Movie Night was not especially well-attended tonight (High School Musical 3: Senior Year), but it was okay. They can't all be big hits.

Took the not-picked-up stuff to Goodwill this morning, did other bits of erranding, and now back to the housecleaning. This is evidently when it's meant to happen.

There's supposed to be one of those "We need your usable clothes and stuff" pickups this morning, so I'm gathering up stuff from my closet. Trying to be ruthless. I really need to de-clutter, and I'm trying to use the if i haven't used/worn it in a couple years, i don't need it approach. It hurts, but it's necessary.

9:11pm

The pickup people, who let the note on my door saying they'd be doing the picking up today between eight in the morning and dark, never showed up, so the stuff is all still out on the curb. Very classy.

Thursday, 22 April 2010 (summer of rage)
1:34pm

Marta stayed over, as she is wont to do on Wednesday nights, and after dropping her off at work, I went to Target and stocked up on some new black tops, since I have very few left that are stained or falling apart in some way. The fact that I'm so rapidly falling out of shape, again, isn't helping.

Now, housecleaning.

So, of course, not too long after the coworkers of mine ask me to start doing more stuff for them, I break the front page of their site. That's just how it works. Thankfully, they think it's more funny than anything else, since I mostly just messed up some of the formatting.
